STATUS OF THE PEDAGOGY BUREAU OF THE BASILIAN CHOUERITE SISTERS |

Introduction The Congregation of the Basilian Chouerite Sisters, by order of its constitutions, intend to fill a mission in the following areas : Apostolic, Pastoral, Social, Educative and of Hospital care. This mission is translated through the different institutions and establishments that depend directly on the General Council of the Congregation. The objective sought by the Congrgation consists in the development of every man without discrimation of religious, social and ethnic nature, and every man in his personal, spiritual, social and cultural dimensions. It owns 14 schools spread in all the Lebanese territory and the Arab countries. They are managed by Nuns assisted by a number of lay people and they provide schooling for about students belonging to the different religious communities. Education being an essential purpose in the mission of the Basilian Chouerite Sisters, the elaboration of a common educative policy and the logistic and pedagogic support that the General Council of the Congregation desires to provide to the establishments, justify the organization and the activation of the Pedagogy Bureau and its services. |

1 - Statut 1.1. The Pedagogy Bureau is a unity specialised in the making of decision, in the service of the schools, in the areas of education and culture. 1.2. Its fundamental task consists in promoting the educative policy of the Congregation in all its schools. This policy will emphasise Christian values, the constitutions of the Congregation, the Apostolic exhortations, the liaisons between the Assembly of Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon (APECL) and the General Secretary of the Catholic Schools (SGEC), according to the official curriculum of the National Ministry of Education. 1.3. Respecting the rights and the power of the Superiors of the schools, the Pedagogy Bureau exerts its functions by mandate from the General Council of the Congregation to which it is accountable. 1.4. The General Council of the Congregation designates the manageress of the bureau who is assisted in her task by a pedagogic committee whose members are nominated by this very Council. 1.5. The Pedagogy Bureau carries out the role of intermediary between the schools of the Congregation and the specialised bodies, either religious or secular : The Linguistic and Educative Cooperation (CLE), The SGEC and the CRDP. 1.6. Being thus a body that wants to be in the service of the schools, the Pedagogy Bureau must establish a serious cooperation strategy operating between itself and each of its establishments, more precisely, at animation and formation levels. |

2 – Constitution and fonctions The Pedagogy Bureau is composed of a mangeress and a pedagogic committee. 2.1. The manageress is a Nun, nominated by the General Council of the Congregation, amongst the sisters with academic qualifications of a head of astablishment, at least, and a sufficient experience in teaching and managing. 2.1.1. Functions : - She guarantees the management and the administration of B.P. and presides the meetings of the pedagogic committee. - She submits to the General Council, in July of each academic year, a written report on the programming of the bureau and its budget. - She presents at the end of the month of every academic year, a detailed assessment of the activities under execution, according to the pre-established program.
- She asks the General Council for assistance according to the follow through of the development of work. 2.2. The Pedagogy committee: Members of the Pedagogy committee are Nuns nominated by the General Council ; they will be assisted by : - the secretary who guarantees the correspondance, the keeping of archives, the reproduction of documents. - the researcher who takes care of the centre of documentation, keeps up to date the lists of reference, goes through he periodicals, distributes the documents. 2.2.1. Functions : - The committee meets 4 times a year. - It studies and approaves the annual plan of work of B.P., established by the manageress. - It evaluates the action of B.P. and carries out the necessary adjustments. |

3 – Specialised Functions Groups will be set up according to the annual plan of the bureau in order to elaborate and put into application each of the projects. 4 – Financing The B.P. is financed by: - The subscriptions of the Establishments, whose amount is set by the General Council. - The donations. - Income owing to the different services organised and rendered by the bureau. |

5 – The field of action of the bureau
1) Elaborate the educative project peculiar to the Congregation. 2) Assist in the setting, the following through and the evaluation of the « project of establishing » in every school. 3) Aider à l’élaboration, au suivi et à l’évaluation des projets pédagogiques. 4) Guarantee the coordination between the different educative establishments: * circulate the informations; * assist in the planning of work; * see to the application of the official curriculum and assist the responsible of the cycles and the teachers to establish the programming of the activities, within the scope of the formation. 5) Establish, in collaboration with the heads of establishments, the fundamental pedagogic principles for the execution of all the cycles, in particular the principles : * that are coherent with the educative project ; * that guarantee the success of a greater number of students, in the pedagogic differentiation ; * that guarantee for the student situations where he/she will be able to « learn to learn » and be the actor of his/her own formation. 6) Guarantee continuous formations to the heads of establishments, to the responsibles for the cycles and the teachers with the assistance of competent persons : * By organising meetings, conferences and educative and formation seminaries. * By guaranteeing the follow through on the ground in the schools. * By facilitating for all responsible access to proposed formations by the different bodies. 7) See to the reduction of the formations organised by the Pedagogy Bureau, the CLE, the SGEC or other bodies and to guarantee their follow through. 8) Assist in the setting of a pedagogic and social service to guarantee a relation of permanent assistance : * to the professional and administrative body ; * to the children and their parents. 9) Set up a permanent reflexion group to : * Guarantee a bank of documentation. * Think about the different pedagogic questions and elaborate solutions. 10) Do comparative studies between the pedagogic tools (manuals and pedagogic material) in order to facilitate its choice. |
